Hi, I’m Kayla, co-founder of Abelin.

For years, I was stuck in a cycle of redness, rashes, and frustration—better known as contact dermatitis. Not “serious” enough for a specialist, but serious enough to wreck my self-esteem. As you can see from the image above, i could barely recognize myself. 

The real kicker? After digging deeper, I discovered it wasn’t just “my skin being sensitive.” A big part of the problem was hiding in plain sight: preservatives. Most cleansers are packed with them so they can sit on shelves forever. Great for warehouses, not so great for skin.

So, my partner Yinka (the curious one) signed us up for an online formulation class. We started mixing cleansers, shampoos, and lotions right in our kitchen. And guess what? My skin finally chilled out.

We shared our formulas with friends and family, who loved them. To save time, we started pre-mixing concentrated bases and only adding water when we needed a refill. That little hack turned into a big idea: what if skincare was made fresh at home—gentler on skin and lighter on the planet? Two years later, Abelin was born.
